Captains Slug Way to 14-5 Win at Lexington

(Lexington, KY)--The Lake County Captains slugged five home runs Sunday evening, and cruised to a 14-4 win over the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park.

Chris Gimenez and Mike Butia each hit two home runs and drove in five runs apiece as the Captains won for the third straight time over the Legends.

The Captains (5-5, 45-35) also had four doubles to go along with the five longballs. The five homers was one shy of the team record of six homers in a game, which also came against the Legends last July 6th at Classic Park.

Gimenez hit a solo homer off Garrett Murdy (2-1) in the second inning for a 1-0 Captains lead. Butia belted a three-run shot off the scoreboard in center field in the third and Chad Longworth added an RBI double to make it 5-0.

Butia helped chase Murdy with his second home run, a two-run shot to righ in the fifth to run the score to 7-0. Butia now has six homers and a team-high 48 RBI.

Shortstop Brian Finegan greeted reliever Raymar Diaz with a solo homer in the seventh, his sixth of the year. Diaz then walked three batters before Gimenez cranked a grand slam homer to left to make the score 12-2. It was Gimenez's second grand slam of the season. Gimenez now has a team-high nine homers and 44 RBI. He narrowly missed his third homer of the game when he doubled off the wall in right in the ninth.

Second baseman Drew Sutton had a pair of two-run homers for the Legends (5-5, 47-33).

Cody Bunkelman (1-3) picked up his first Captains win, going 5 1/3 innings. He allowed just four hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out six.

Adrian Schau worked the final three innings for his first save.

The Captains will now return to Classic Park for a nine-game homestand beginning Monday night, July 4th, at 7:05 against Lakewood (WELW AM 1330).
