Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD:The Lakewood Blueclaws took their fifth game in six tries versus the Hagerstown Suns on Saturday, 11-9. The first half champion Suns, who were 42-28 at the midway point, fell to 3-6 in the second half, while Lakewood improved to 6-3 and 31-48 overall.
The game went back and forth all night. The Suns had an early 1-0 lead after one inning, then Lakewood came back to take the lead 2-1 in the top of the second. In the bottom half of the inning the Suns tied it at 2-2. Lakewood again forged ahead 5-2 in the top of the third, only to be countered by a huge six run bottom of the third, which gave the Suns an 8-5 lead.
Lakewood scored three times to tie it in the fifth, yet the Suns plated a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth for a 9-8 lead. The final blow was a three-spot for Lakewood in the seventh.
Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision, and both were gone before the fifth inning concluded. It was the second straight night Hagerstown had 14 hits and still lost to the Blueclaws. The Suns were 10-5 at one point versus Lakewood before losing five of the last six to them, and now the season series stands at 11-10 in the Suns favor.
Sunday's Herald-Mail Family Day finale of the two game series is at 6:35pm, and will feature a 3-D Fireworks show sponsored by American Radiology after the game. RHP Max De La Cruz (3-7) goes against the Suns ace RHP Gaby Hernandez (6-1). Kids run the bases after the game sponsored by Antietam Cable as well.
