Suns Leave Biscuits in the Shade, 4-0

June 13, 2007 - Southern League (SL1)
Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY -- Justin Orenduff combined with reliever Ramon Troncoso on a four-hit shutout, leading the Jacksonville Suns (37-29) to a 4-0 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (35-31) in the opener of a five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium.

Orenduff (2-2) sprinkled three hits and two walks over six strong innings, striking out three, to halt the Biscuits' eight-game home winning streak and keep Jacksonville's hopes alive for a South Division first half title. Ramon Troncoso pitched the final three innings to earn his first save.

With first place Mississippi's 5-3 loss to Mobile, the Suns pulled to within three games of the Braves with four contests still to be played in the half.

Alberto Concepcion led the way for the Jacksonville offense, collecting two hits in three at-bats incluing his fifth home run of the season.

Biscuits starter Derek Feldkamp (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings.

Montgomery's sole offensive spark was provided by leadoff hitter Fernando Perez, who notched two singles in four at-bats. Each time, however, he was erased on a double play groundball off Jason Pridie's bat.

The Biscuits lead the Southern League in grounding into double plays, doing so three separate times on Wednesday night. The final one ended the game, a twin killing hit into by Chris Nowak to quash one last threat.

Montgomery and Jacksonville play the second game of the five-game tilt on Thursday night at 7:05 at Riverwalk Stadium. LHP Eric Cyr (5-1, 2.84) is expected to start for the Suns, opposed by Biscuits right-hander Chris Mason (8-1, 2.96), the Southern League's leader in victories.
