Hagerstown Suns News Release

On Tuesday evening, the Hagerstown Suns (53-62) were unable to fend off the Kannapolis Intimidators (52-61) in the rubber match of their five-game road series in Kannapolis, North Carolina at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, losing 8-2.

Suns RHP Billy Ott (1-1), coming off his first win since being called up from the Gulf Coast Nationals allowed seven runs, six of them earned, on seven hits, while walking two and fanning two.

The Intimidators scored three in the bottom of the first inning when CF Nick Ciolli hit a two-run triple off the left field wall, bringing in SS Tyler Saladino and DH Brady Shoemaker. Ciolli scored himself on an error by SS Rick Hague. The relay throw from left field hit the cleat of Ciolli and rolled past the third base bag creating run number three.

Two more runs came across for Kannapolis in the last of the third inning when Shoemaker hit an RBI double off the right field wall scoring Saladino before LF Jose Vargas brought home Shoemaker with an RBI single to left center field.

Another three-run stanza for Kannapolis in the last of the fourth put the comeback attempt for the Suns out of reach. The Intimidators brought nine men to the plate and got an RBI single from 2B Daniel Wagner and a 2-run one-base hit by Shoemaker to put the home team up 8-1 at that time.

The only runs for the Suns came across in the top of the third inning and the away half of the fifth frame. Hague roped an RBI single to center field scoring CF Eury Perez. And 2B Adrian Sanchez, who went 3-for-5 at the plate sent hard grounder that was stopped by Saladino in shallow center field, but it was deep enough to bring in Perez for his second run scored of the game

Kannapolis RHP Andre Rienzo (5-4) pitched a solid ballgame going 5.1 innings and surrendering two earned runs on six hits and two walks. Rienzo, who came into the contest third in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts since the All-Star break, downed 8 Suns on strikes tonight.
