Hickory Crawdads News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - RHP Jake Brigham tossed a two-hit, complete-game shutout to lead the Hickory Crawdads to the 2-0 win against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, before 4,586 fans at NewBridge Bank Park in the series finale on Tuesday. It was the second time a 2010 Crawdad has pitched a complete-game shutout and the team's 14th shutout win of the campaign, setting an all-time Crawdads record.
Brigham (3-2) allowed back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the first inning, before retiring the next 26 batters in a row for 27 total straight outs without allowing another baserunner. He also set a team season-high with 12 strikeouts and did not issue a single walk.
The Crawdads (25-18, 65-48) cracked the scoreless tie against Greensboro starter RHP Matt Montgomery (9-10) in the top of the fourth. With runners on the corners, CF Jared Bolden placed an RBI single to right field, plating 2B Travis Adair from third and putting Hickory ahead, 1-0.
The 'Dads doubled their lead with a 3B Matt West solo home run in the top of the seventh, accounting for the 2-0 final score. Brigham retired his 27th straight out and 26th straight batter with his 12th strikeout, ending the ballgame and earning the dominant victory, while Montgomery was tagged with the loss for Greensboro (22-22, 54-60).
