Suns Explode for Win over Stars

Huntsville, Ala. - Lee Mitchell belted a homerun and contributed five RBI to a huge offensive barrage for the Jacksonville Suns (30-33) in a 14-1 victory over the Huntsville Stars (36-25) in front of 2,739 Saturday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

Suns starter Graham Taylor (3-5) picked up the victory, his first winning decision since April 14. The southpaw allowed one hit and four walks over five and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts. Stars starter Mike Jones (1-2) fell in the loss, giving up five runs, three earned, over two and two-thirds innings.

Jacksonville scored 14 runs on 18 hits in the game and started early, scoring six runs over the first four innings. In the first, the Suns scored two unearned runs after a two-out error for the early 2-0 lead. Tim Torres singled in a run in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. During the third inning Chris Hatcher hit a sacrifice fly and Bryan Petersen belted a double for a 5-0 advantage. A Lee Mitchell single in the fourth plated another run for a 6-0 lead.

Th e Suns continued the barrage in the seventh inning, starting on a Chris Hatcher solo homerun for a 7-0 lead. Later in the inning, Logan Morrison belted a two-run double for a 9-0 lead.

During the eighth inning, Andy Jenkins drove in a pair of runs with a pinch double for an 11-0 advantage. During the ninth inning Lee Mitchell capped off the night with his fourth hit, a three-run homerun for a 14-0 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Huntsville scored its only run on a groundout from Shane Justis for a 14-1 final.
