Biscuits Claim Marathon Game Two, 5-4

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits erased a 4-0 deficit, waited through a rain-delay and finally dumped the Chattanooga Lookouts, 5-4, in 14 innings on Friday night and part of Saturday morning at Riverwalk Stadium.

With Jesus Rodriguez on in relief and the game tied, 4-4, Matt Fields sparked the game-winning rally with a leadoff single. Cesar Suarez followed with a single and J.T. Hall was intentionally walked to load the bases. Nevin Ashley then cracked the game-winner through the left side of a pulled in infield to score Fields and end the ballgame, 5-4.

Paul Phillips (1-0) earned his first win as a Biscuit, working two perfect innings of relief to earn the win in what was the longest game (5:45) of the season for both teams. The total time includes the 55-minute delay.

The Biscuits rally, interrupted by rain, came in the eighth inning. Entering the inning trailing 4-0, Pedro Powell reached on an error to start the frame. Fernando Cortez followed with a single to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Cortez stole second to put two in scoring position and Fields ripped a single down the first base line to score both runners and cut the lead in half. J.D. Durbin was summoned to relieve Francisco Felix, but walked Suarez as rain began to fall at the ballpark. With two on and nobody out, the rain intensified, halting play for 55 minutes.

Durbin remained in the game following the delay and Joe Gaetti sacrificed the two runners to second and third. Nevin Ashley flared a singled to score Fields and move Suarez to third. Drew Anderson tied the game at four with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Lookouts again struck first in game two, plating four runs in the third inning. Adam Godwin started the frame with a bunt-single and stole second base. He advanced to third on a fly ball to right field and scored when Justin Sellers singled to bring home the first run of the ballgame. Josh Bell followed with a single and Mike Rose made it 2-0 by singling in Sellers. Andrew Lambo loaded the bases with a single and the damage multiplied with a two-run single from Eddy Perez that stretched the Lookouts' lead to 4-0. The Lookouts recorded six hits in the inning, including five in succession.

Lookouts' starter James Adkins was not enduring any similar struggles, breezing through six scoreless innings while allowing just one runner past first base. He ran into minor trouble in the seventh and was removed after 6 1/3 innings. Francisco Felix came on in relief and finished the inning without further incident.

Mann departed after four innings, allowing four earned runs to the Lookouts. He conceded eight hits -- all singles -- to Chattanooga, while walking three and striking out one.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Heath Rollins (5-4, 3.88) will make the start for Montgomery against LHP James Adkins (2-5, 5.31) for Chattanooga.
