Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jacksonville took an early lead, but the Lookouts fought back to bring the game to extra innings. All was for naught, however, as Jacksonville came away with a 5-4 victory in extra innings in Monday night action at AT&T Field.
Jacksonville jumped on Lookouts starting pitcher Ben Jukich early on in the game. A Jukich offering was golfed over the left field wall by Russell Mitchell to give the Suns a 3-0 lead.
The Suns added another run to their lead in the second on an Ivan DeJesus ball hit up the middle, which was muffed by Lookouts second baseman Justin Turner, allowing Adam Godwin to score from first on the play ruled as s single and a subsequent error.
Chattanooga halved the Suns' lead in the bottom of the fourth. Birthday boy Tonys Gutierrez hit a one-out single to start the rally. After a Chris Valaika line out, Justin Turner advanced Gutierrez to third with a double. Eric Eymann came through in the clutch by ripping a two-RBI single to left.
The Lookouts tied-up the score in the bottom of the sixth. Valaika started the inning off with a walk and advanced to third on an Eric Eymann double. Chris Denove then walked to load the bases. B.J. Szymanski followed with a two-RBI single to left, bringing the score to 4-4.
Both teams remained deadlocked until the 10th frame, when a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to left by Lucas May off of Lookouts relief pitcher Sean Watson (1-2) put the score at its final resting point, 5-4.
Jacobo Meque pitched a perfect ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. Brent Leach (2-2) was credited with the win after throwing two innings of shutout relief. Chattanooga will wrap-up their five-game homestand against the Jacksonville Stars at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. The Tickets for these games or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
