MOBILE, Ala. - Six full innings was all that could be completed on Monday as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx used the long ball to beat the BayBears 4-0 at Hank Aaron Stadium.

With liquid sunshine drenching the field in Mobile, the contest was called with two outs in the top of the seventh. West Tenn (65-60, 24-31) had a runner on first with Forrest Cory on the hill in relief of Adam Howard (7-7).

Howard had a rough first inning but ended up tossing six while allowing four solo home runs. Erick Monzon and Marshall Hubbard smacked back-to-back jacks in the first while Adam Moore also popped one out to make it a three-homer frame.

Offensively, the BayBears (54-71, 25-30) never did solve Jaxx starter Joe Woerman (1-2) as he worked six frames while surrendering only two hits. The only threat the BayBears mustered was when the first two men reached in the second but a double play and a groundout quickly silenced the noise.

West Tenn added to their advantage with a Greg Halman tater in the sixth, but when Noah Hall tried to go yard, he was robbed on a leaping over-the-wall grab by left fielder Cyle Hankerd.

Game two of the five-game set between the BayBears and Diamond Jaxx is on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Matt Green (1-2, 6.44) gets the nod for the BayBears against right-hander Tracy Thorpe (1-0, 2.08). Call (251) 479-BEAR for tickets or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.

Key Moment

The back-to-back home runs in the first inning were the first by BayBear opponents since Montgomery turned the trick on August 14, 2005.

Key Player

While helped by the long ball, Woerman kept the BayBear bats at bay on Monday while working a two-hit shutout in six innings of work.

Key Number

With the defeat, the BayBears fell to 3-3 on their current homestand and 3-3 in Mobile against the Jaxx this season.
