Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (16-12) were edged 4-1 by the Augusta GreenJackets (13-15) at Municipal Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
GreenJackets starter Kyle Crick (1-1) earned the win with six shutout innings on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out eight batters. Closer Cody Hall notched his league leading seventh save of the season, facing the minimum three batters in the ninth inning.
Augusta shortstop Kelby Tomlinson had two hits and scored two runs from the top of the order, while right fielder Michael Mergenthaler belted his first home run of the season. A ball batted by Mergenthaler with the bases loaded in first inning was thrown away by Suns second baseman Hendry Jimenez, resulting in a pair of unearned runs for the GreenJackets.
Suns starting pitcher Taylor Hill (3-2) suffered his second consecutive loss to the GreenJackets, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits over five innings of work. Matt Skole added to his South Atlantic League leading RBI total (34), driving in one run in the game. Centerfielder Billy Burns extended his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games, drawing a walk in the seventh inning.
The Suns will play game three against the August GreenJackets on Monday evening at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Wirkin Estevez (3-1) takes the hill for the Suns against Augusta's RHP Paul Davis (2-0).
