Hickory Crawdads News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Hickory Crawdads limited the Kannapolis Intimidators to just three hits en route to the 5-3 win, before 2,572 fans at CMC-Northeast Stadium in Kannapolis on Sunday evening .
Kannapolis (12-17) got out to a quick start against RHP Santo Perez (W, 2-1) and the 'Dads (18-11). A solo shot by C Kevan Smith cracked the scoreless tie in the first, before a couple of unearned runs in the second made it 3-0. Perez, however, retired the next 14 batters in a row and tossed a total of seven innings with six strikeouts for the win.
The Crawdads came right back in the top of the third against LHP Scott Snodgress (L, 1-1). DH Kellin Deglan sparked the comeback with a lead-off double, before C Joe Maloney connected with a two-run homer to left field. After a fly out, 2B Luis Sardinas worked a walk and quickly moved to second on a single from LF Chris Grayson. SS Hanser Alberto then tied the game, 3-3, with an RBI double to left that plated Sardinas.
Hickory swung in front in the top of the sixth. With one down and the bases clear, CF Jordan Akins unloaded a solo home run over the left-center field wall, lifting the Crawdads into the 4-3 lead.
After Perez's seven frames, LHP Greg Williams (S, 3) took over for the eighth and retired the Intimidators in order. The Crawdads then struck again with a solo bomb by RF Zach Cone in the top of the ninth, before Williams closed the 5-3 win for Hickory with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
