PENSACOLA, FL - Terrence Dayleg's first Double-A homer and an excellent Double-A debut from Casey McCarthy powered the Jacksonville Suns (5-5, 41-39) to a 12-6 victory Pensacola Blue Wahoos (4-7, 35-46) in Sunday's series-opening ballgame from Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.

Chipper Smith did not factor into the decision after he allowed five runs (all earned) on four hits in his 4.2 innings of work. The left-hander tied season-highs with six strikeouts and four walks in his no decision.

Casey McCarthy (W, 1-0) earned the win in his Double-A debut, allowing one run (earned) on four hits in the final 4.1 innings of the game, while striking out four batters and not walking one.

Timothy Adleman (L, 1-3) took the loss for Pensacola by giving up two runs (earned) on two hits while walking one batter in his 1.0 inning of work.

Terrence Dayleg (HR, 1) got the Suns on the scoreboard first, belting a three-run home run to left-center to give the Suns a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. The homer was his first at the Double-A level.

The Blue Wahoos struck back in the bottom of the second, using a RBI double from Marquez Smith to score Seth Mejias-Brean and make it a 3-1 Suns lead.

Austin Nola made it a 5-1 advantage in favor of the Suns after slapping a clutch, two-out, two-run single into right field in the top of the fourth inning.

But Pensacola got those runs right back with one swing of the bat. Marquez Smith (HR, 1) launched a two-run homer to left center to make it a 5-3 lead in favor of the Suns after four innings of play.

After Chipper Smith couldn't work out of the fifth, Casey McCarthy came in to make his Southern League debut. Unfortunately for McCarthy, Ryan Wright (HR, 1) took him deep for a go-ahead three-run home run, giving Pensacola its first lead of the day at 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

But Jacksonville responded in a major way in the top of the sixth, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six times to re-take the lead. Alfredo Silverio (HR, 3) led off the frame with a game-tying solo shot, with the Suns also receiving a RBI double from Terrence Dayleg, and two-run singles from J.T. Realmuto and Brady Shoemaker (only one RBI on his base hit) to make it an 11-6 lead for the Suns.

The Suns added to their lead after Brady Shoemaker's RBI single made it a 12-6 lead in the top of the eighth. The run would cap off the scoring for these two teams on Sunday.

There was a 13-minute delay in the bottom of the fourth inning, which ultimately led to home plate umpire J.J. January becoming the home plate umpire and Charely Tierney becoming the field umpire as Jeremy Riggs was unable to continue in the ballgame.

The Suns and Blue Wahoos will be back at it on Monday night with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET). The Suns will send out right-hander Jay Rogers (2-2, 4.81) while the BayBears will counter with a righty of their own in Jon Moscot (4-6, 2.83).

Suns fans can listen to Monday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:15 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
