Jackson Generals News Release

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 29, 2014) -Tyler Olson (3-4, 4.13) logged his third start of at least seven innings and surrendered only three runs on six hits, but it was not enough as the Mobile BayBears (6-5/48-32) took the series opener from the Generals (3-8/34-46) 4-3 on Sunday. The Generals played their third straight one-run game falling to 5-11 in those affairs.

Jackson gave Olson some early run support as they plated their first two runs in first inning. The first three batters in the order reached to load the bases with no outs. After Julio Morban (0x3, RBI) grounded into a double play that went home to first, Pat Kivlehan (1x3, 2 RBI, 2B, BB) came up and lined a 2-run double to left-center. Ketel Marte (2x4, 2 R, 2 3B, BB) and D.J. Peterson (1x3, R, BB) scored to give the Generals the early 2-0 advantage.

The lead was short lived as Ryan Court tripled to bring home Gerson Montilla and Court scored on a single from Mark Thomas and the score was tied 2-2 after two innings.

In the third, the BayBears took the lead on a Todd Glaesmann double that brought in Tom Belza and the lead for Mobile was 3-2 until the fifth.

Jackson tied the game once again as Marte hit his first of two triples and Morban hit a sacrifice fly to score Marte and the Mobile lead was gone at 3-3 after five innings.

The BayBears re-took the lead again in the top of the eighth with two outs. Tom Belza singled and Jake Lamb doubled him home to give Mobile another one-run advantage at 4-3.

Willy Paredes came out of the bullpen to earn the win for Mobile, his third of the season, as he went 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit striking out two. He came in to relieve Patrick Schuster who also went 2.1 innings and relieved starter Justin Fitzgerald who lasted 4.1 innings before leaving with an injury.

Olson received a no-decision for his effort as Kyle Hunter (1-2, 4.65) drew the loss in 0.2 innings as he allowed the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.

Marte ended the game with two triples, which was the first time that occurred in a Generals game since Nick Franklin pulled off the feat twice in 2012. The last one coming on May 28 against Pensacola in Jackson.

The Generals continue their 10-game homestand and five-game series with Mobile on Monday night, with game two of the series. Jackson will send RHP Stephen Landazuri (3-2, 3.21) to the bump as RHP Bradin Hagens (6-3, 4.14) will make the start for the BayBears. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
