
Paciorek Leads Stars Past M-Braves

PEARL, MS -- Joey Paciorek delivered a two-run, pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth to lead the Huntsville Stars to a 9-7 victory over the Mississippi Braves Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park. The series continues with game two of a five-game set Monday at 7:00 PM.
Mississippi (6-5, 45-35) scored seven runs on eight hits while Huntsville (7-4, 53-28) plated its nine runs on 12 hits. Cedric Hunter led the M-Braves offensively with a three-hit game. For the Stars, Kentrail Davis went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
The M-Braves took a 3-0 lead in the second. Mycal Jones and Kyle Kubitza walked and promptly completed a double steal. Daniel Castro followed with a RBI-single to right. Braeden Schlehuber then grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Kubitza to score from third. Schlehuber took second on an errant throw by the shortstop before scoring on Jason Hursh's single to right.
Huntsville responded in the third. D'Vontrey Richardson and Yadiel Rivera singled to start the frame. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt before Davis delivered a two-run single. Davis took second on the throw and came around to score on a Josh Prince base hit, tying the game at 3-3.
Hunter blasted a solo homer into the Farm Bureau Grill, giving the M-Braves a 4-3 advantage after three complete.
The Stars made it a 6-4 game in the sixth. Davis doubled and took third on a ground out. Nick Ramirez then walked to put runners at the corners. Taylor Green grounded out, scoring Davis and tying the game. Lucas May followed with a RBI-double before scoring himself on Erik Komatsu's single to left field.
Rivera led off the top of the seventh with a single to center. He stole second and scored on Davis' single to center field, extending Huntsville's lead to 7-4.
Gustavo Nunez walked to start the Braves' seventh. Jose Peraza followed with a single to right. An error by the right fielder allowed Nunez to move to third. Kyle Wren then singled to left, driving in Nunez and cutting the Stars' lead to 7-5. Peraza came in to score on Hunter's single to left, making it a 7-6 game. Seth Loman grounded into a force out, driving in the tying run. It was also Loman's ninth-straight game with an RBI, breaking Jeff Francoeur's record from 2005.
Komatsu and Richardson singled to start the ninth inning for the Stars. Rivera laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Davis was then intentionally walked to load the bases for a two-run, pinch-hit single off the bat of Joey Paciorek-giving Huntsville a 9-7 lead.
Tommy Toledo (4-1) blew a save but picked up the win. He gave up one hit in two innings. David Goforth (S, 16) came on in the ninth to notch the save. Ryan Kelly (0-1) worked the final two innings for the Braves, giving up two runs on three hits and taking the loss.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Hursh tossed 5.1 innings for the Braves, giving up five earned runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out two batters. Jacob Barnes gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks. He struck out two batters in six innings of work.
