April 9, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Suns rode timely hits and some two-out magic to a 7-4 win in the opener of a five-game series against the Birmingham Barons in front of 6,511 fans at Regions Field.
Anthony DeSclafani (W, 2-0) picked up his second win of 2014 after allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits in six innings, while walking a pair of Barons and striking out one.
The Suns got to Barons' starter Chris Beck (L, 1-1) early, tagging him for six runs (all earned) on nine hits in five innings of work, while not walking or striking out any Suns.
Jacksonville plated four runs in the top of the second, thanks to back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Austin Nola and Isaac Galloway as well as a two-run triple off the bat of Alfredo Silverio to make it a 4-0 lead in favor of the Suns through one and a half innings of play.
The Barons would channel some two out magic of their own in the bottom of the third, as Jaime Pedroza (HR, 3) smoked a three-run homer to pull the Barons to within one, with the score still in favor of the Suns 4-3 through three innings.
Jacksonville would answer right back in the top of the fourth as 2013 Southern League All-Star J.T. Realmuto (HR, 1) blasted a two-run homer, his first of the year to make it 6-3 Suns in the top of the fourth.
The Suns and Barons would each tack on a run in the sixth inning to finish the scoring.
Edgar Olmos (H, 1) would set the Barons down in order in the seventh and eighth innings, before Grant Dayton (SV, 1) would lock down the win with a perfect ninth inning.
Every Suns starter finished with at least one hit, as Jacksonville ripped a season-best 16 hits in Wednesday's ballgame, including a three-hit effort from Brady Shoemaker and two-hit games from J.T. Realmuto, Isaac Galloway and newcomer Rich Poythress.
The Suns and Barons will be right back at it at 8:05 p.m. ET Thursday night from Regions Field, with the Suns set to throw out left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-0, 5.06) and the Barons aiming to send the righty Myles Jaye (0-0, 3.00) to the mound.
Suns fans can listen to Wednesday's upcoming game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
