BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Birmingham Barons at Regions Field at 8:05 p.m.

Right-handed relief pitcher Steve Ames has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to April 7, with a right shoulder strain. Ames made two appearances for the Suns, going 0-1 with an ERA of 9.00 in his one inning pitched.

In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher James Nygren has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Nygren has made two appearances with the Hammerheads this season, not allowing any hits or runs in four innings on the mound.

Infielder Ross Wilson has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. Wilson played in three games for the Suns over the weekend, going 0-for-5 at the plate.

The Marlins also announced the signing of minor league free agent infielder Rich Poythress, who has been added to the Suns' roster.

Poythress, signed today by Miami, has spent the past five seasons in the Seattle Mariners system, reaching Triple-A in 2013. Originally a second round selection (51st overall) out of the University of Georgia in the 2009 draft, Poythress has spent parts of four seasons in the Southern League with the Jackson Generals. As a Southern League hitter he has compiled an average of .276 to go along with his 20 homers and 122 runs batted in. Poythress was released by the Mariners on March 27.

The Suns roster now stands at 25, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns will play the first game of their five-game series with the Birmingham Barons at Regions Field tonight at 8:05 p.m. Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (1-0, 1.50 ERA) will pitch for the Suns against Birmingham right-hander Chris Beck (1-0, 3.60 ERA).

Fans can listen to the game on the Suns Baseball Network on WSOS-FM 94.1 and www.jaxsuns.com with coverage beginning with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show at 7:50 p.m. ET.
