Suns Spoil Barons Hope Opener with 16-Hit Barrage

Birmingham, AL - The Jacksonville Suns pounded out 16 hits en route to a 7-4 win in the Barons 2014 home opener Wednesday night in front of 6,511 fans at Regions Field.

Jacksonville jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead against starter Chris Beck (0-1, 7.20) in the second, getting two runs on a triple by Alfredo Silverio and single runs on RBI singles by Austin Nola and Isaac Galloway.

The Barons got on the board an inning later on a three-run home run by Jamie Pedroza, his league-leading third home run of the season, to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Suns offense continued to do damage against Beck in the fourth,plating two more runs on a two-run homer by JT Realmuto to take a 6-3 lead. Frank De Los Santos would relieve Beck in the sixth, allowing another run on an RBI single by Austin Nola.

Josh Richmond continued his early season hot-streak, collecting an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. He currently leads the Southern League with seven RBI on the season.

The win went to Suns starter Anthony DeSclafani (2-0, 3.75) who allowed four runs on seven hits over 6.0 IP. The Suns have won both of DeSclafani's starts on the season while going 0-4 in the remaining four games.

The Suns outhit the Barons 16-7 as five players recorded multi-hit games including a three hit night by former Baron Brady Shoemaker. Kevan Vance led the Barons with two hits, raising his season average to .313.

With the loss the Barons fell to 2-4 while the Suns improved to 2-4. The Barons will look to rebound Thursday night in game two of the series as RH Myles Jaye (0-0, 3.00) takes the hill against LH Andrew Heaney (0-0, 5.06).First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
