Walker Strikes out 10 as Generals Win Home Opener

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 9, 2014) - Taijuan Walker (1-0) made a return to The Ballpark in Jackson Wednesday during the home opener and earned the win in the team's 4-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves. The Generals improve to 4-2 on the young season and they win in front of 3,671 fans on Opening Night in Jackson.

Walker, who made his 40th career start with the Generals Wednesday, made his first appearance in Jackson since June, 2013 and struck out 10 batters in five innings.

The Mariners' top pitching prospect was aided by some early offense from the Generals.

Ketel Marte scored on a Sac fly by Kevin Rivers in the first. Dan Paolini contributed an RBI double that scored Jabari Blash later in the inning.

The Generals added two more runs in the third as Kevin Rivers scored on an RBI double by Leon Landry, who crossed the plate on an RBI single by Mike Dowd.

The M-Braves scored their first two runs on a fifth-inning 2-run home run by Seth Loman off RHP Richard Vargas.

Stephen Kohlscheen (1) earned his first save of the season shutting the door in the ninth on thirteen pitches.

L- Lay Batista: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO

S- Stephen Kohlscheen: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO

Jabari Blash was 1-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to six.

The Generals continue their home opening series with Mississippi Thursday at 7:05 pm. RHP Trevor Miller (0-0) will face Mississippi right-hander Jason Hursh (0-0).

The Ballpark at Jackson will host its first DollarNight, presented by MobileNation on Thursday. Fans can purchase general admission tickets, hot dogs, popcorn, 12 oz soft drinks and beer for just $1! Reserved seating is reduced to $5.
