Rapid City Rush News Release
Rapid City, SD - On Sunday night, the Rapid City Rush and Arizona Sundogs took to the ice for the second and final game of the 2010 preseason. Goaltender Bobby Jarosz and the Arizona penalty kill powered the Sundogs to a 2-1 victory and a split of the weekend series.
The Arizona Sundogs got off to a better start in game number two, notching the game's first goal just 5:33 in. Defenseman Chris Kane fired a low shot from the point that was deflected by Jason Visser high over the glove of Danny Battochio. The Rush would fight back at 13:56 while on the powerplay. Andrew Martin took advantage of a defenseman with no stick and fired a wrist shot from right faceoff dot that beat Jarosz to the short side. Play was even at 1-1 after 20 minutes with Arizona holding a slight edge in shots, 14-12.
The Sundogs would regain the lead at the 14:15 mark of the second period. Good puck movement by Torren Delforte and Chris Kane allowed Steve Kaye to fire a one-timer home from the bottom of the left circle, making it a 2-1 game.
The final period showcased the goaltending of both Jimmy Spratt and Bobby Jarosz who combined for 30 saves including 23 by Jarosz. Neither team was able to find the back of the net despite the combined 30 shots and a 6-on-4 advantage by the Rush in the final minute. The Sundogs would hold off the strong attack to capture the 2-1 victory.
The Rush outshot the Sundogs 46-34 over three periods, but were stifled on seven of eight powerplay chances. On the other side, Arizona was held scoreless on four man-advantage opportunities.
Tonight's contest marks the final game of the 2010 preseason, as the Rush will now travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Komets in the 2010-11 regular season opener.
The first home game of the regular season is set for Saturday, October 23rd at 7:05pm against the Colorado Eagles. Tickets are still available for that game.
