
Sundogs' Kelly Tallies First-Ever Hat Trick in 5-2 Win

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs traveled to Laredo, Texas to square off against one of the top team in the Central Hockey League Friday night. The two clubs faced one and other twice prior with Laredo winning both contests 6-2. Tonight's contest would be a different story as the Sundogs would play inspired hockey ending a six-game road losing streak in a 5-2 win. CHL leading goal scorer Brent Kelly would collect the first hat trick in Sundogs history to help in the win.
Laredo would take an early 1-0 lead as Jeff Bes would tally his 13th goal of the season on a pass from Igor Agarunov just 1:31 into the contest. Arizona would answer at the 4:56 mark as Brent Kelly would notch his first of three markers of the night from defenseman Chris Bartolone. With less than three minutes to play in the first period the Sundogs would take a 2-1 lead as Arizona forward Cory Stillman would grab the Sundogs' eighth shorthanded goal of the year unassisted. Chris Greene would be handed a four-minute high sticking double minor at 16:38 of the first period.
Laredo would even the score at two goals apiece at 3:48 of the second period as Chris Korchinski would take a pass from Adam Rivet and push it past Sundogs' netminder Chris King. Seventeen seconds later David Svagrovsky would regain the Sundogs' lead as he would find the back of the Laredo net to push the Sundogs lead to 3-2. Five minutes later Kelly would collect his second of the game from defenseman David Lizotte to increase Arizona's lead by two closing out scoring in the middle frame. Both teams would see eight penalties each in the frame.
The third period would see considerably less penalties for each club as the game would calm. The Sundogs' Kelly would grab an empty net goal with only 13 seconds left in regulation to secure the first-ever hat trick in Sundogs history and the 5-2 victory over defending CHL Champions the Laredo Bucks.
Both clubs would be unable to score with the man advantage on the night as Laredo would finish 0-for-13 while the Sundogs would finish 0-for-7 on the power play. Chris King appeared in net for Arizona stopping 29 of 31 shots en route to the win while Laredo netminder Kevin Reiter would be pulled after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Eric Marvin stepped in for the Bucks deflecting all 11 shots faced. Next the Sundogs travel to Austin to face the Ice Bats tomorrow evening in Austin, Texas. Austin currently sits three points ahead of Arizona for the fifth spot in the playoffs. With the win the Sundogs regained the sixth spot in the Southern Conference playoff race with 41 points.
