February 9, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Friday night saw one of the wilder games of the season as 190 penalty minutes were racked up as a result of 55 infractions as the Youngstown SteelHounds answer back Thursday night's loss with a 5-3 win over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the Chevrolet Centre.

Just like Thursday night Chris Richards scored a power play goal to make it 1-0 Hounds at 8:26 of the first period. Jeff Christian tipped in his first of two on the night to make it 2-0 Y-Town after 20 minutes of play.

The second period saw Bossier-Shreveport answer back as Cam Abbott made it 2-1 on a power play goal just 29 seconds into the period. Jeff Christian fired back with a shorthanded breakaway goal to make it 3-1 Youngstown in the sixth minute. Chris Abbott scored short handed just 1:40 later to make it 3-2 but that was as close as the Mudbugs got as Mark Johnson scored on the power play and Tab Lardner scored an even strength goal to make it 5-2 after two periods.

Chris Brassard scored a power play goal for the crayfish late in the third to have the game end up with a 5-3 score but the scoring was just part of the story. David Currie made his first start in net for the Hounds since January 6th and was stout making 25 saves on 28 shots to preserve the win for Youngstown.

The emotion of the game took over as two wild brawls broke out in the third period that included the Mudbugs Quade Lightbody and Jason Williamson getting ejected as well as Youngstown's Shaun Landolt and Dallas Anderson. There were 55 total penalties for the game racking up 190 minutes between the two teams for the night and they still have to play each other one more time this weekend.

The Hounds improved to 21-15-8 (50pts), still nine back of Bossier-Shreveport who sits in second place at 27-12-6 (59pts). These two teams finish off their three game set at the Chevrolet Centre at 7:05pm on Saturday night.
