Sundogs Fall, 2-1, in Marathon Shootout

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Gerry Festa turned aside David Nimmo to close out an eight-round shootout and give the Missouri Mavericks a 2-1 win over the Arizona Sundogs on Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

Andrew Courtney was credited with the game-winning goal after scoring in the eighth round for Missouri.

The Mavericks carried a 1-0 lead into the third period before Tyler Butler scored a power play goal from the bottom of the left circle early in the frame to force overtime.

After a scoreless first period, Nathan O'Nabigon opened up the game's scoring 4:15 into the second to make it 1-0, Mavs. John-Scott Dickson and Dale Mahovsky added the assists. For Mahovsky, it was his fifth point in the last two games.

Kyle Hood extended his point streak to four games with a helper on Butler's goal. Daymen Rycroft had an assist as well.

Festa finished the night with 34 saves for the win. Levente Szuper took his first loss of the season despite a 40-save performance.

Arizona was 1-for-7 on the power play. Missouri was 0-for-5.

The Sundogs and Mavericks conclude their three-game set on Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
