Bees, Ruskowski, Earn First Victory 6-3

Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release


LAREDO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (1-3-0) raced out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period and held on to defeat the Laredo Bucks (2-2-0) by a 6-3 final on Friday night. Zac Pearson helped pace the Bees by scoring the first two goals of the game.

The Bees took the lead at 5:23 of the first period when Zac Pearson scored his first of two of the game picking off the top right corner with a beautiful shot from inside the circles.

The Bees first period onslaught would continue as Pearson registered his second goal of the period, this one while on the power-play. David Marshall drove towards the net and after forcing Bucks netminder Torrie Jung to commit to the post, Marshall found Pearson alone in the slot who put the puck in the open net.

The Bees made it a 3-0 advantage at 11:36 when David Marshall scored his first of the season. Marshall had the puck alone in front and was able to deke Bucks goalie Jung out of position and put it in the open net.

The Pearson-Marshall-Lee line combined for all three of the Killer Bees goals while goalie Dan Dun made five saves in net.

After Laredo got one goal back to start the second, Dan Nicholls would keep the offense going scoring his first goal of the season after defecting a Jason Beeman shot into the net at 3:31 of the second.

Dan Gendur scored his first of the season at 7:46 of the second after skating a Brandon Campos pass into the zone a ripping a hard shot to the top right corner beating Jung.

After the five goals the Bucks pulled goalie Torrie Jung who made 22 saves.

After one more strike by the Laredo Bucks, Aaron Lee would ice the game for the Bees with his third goal of the season and the Bees would pick up the 6-3 victory.

The Bees return to action this coming weekend hosting the Texas Brahmas and Tulsa Oilers at the State Farm Arena on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are available by calling 956-843-7825 or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
