FRISCO, TEXAS (APRIL 12, 2015) - As the kids enjoyed the perks of the first Sunday Funday of the season at Dr Pepper Ballpark, the men got to work early and earned the Riders their first win of the season, 7-2, in dominating fashion over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (1-3). Frisco starter Jerad Eickhoff went five strong innings as he struck out seven.
After starting each of the first three games with a deficit, the RoughRiders (1-3) struck first on Sunday when designated hitter J.T. Wise went yard off Naturals starter Brandon Finnegan (0-1), who made his first appearance since the 2014 World Series with Kansas City. The TCU graduate and Fort Worth native took the loss as he pitched three innings and gave up seven runs (three earned) on five hits.
The Riders capitalized on two Hunter Dozier errors in the bottom of the second. They scored four unearned runs with Guilder Rodriguez, Patrick Cantwell, Tyler Pastornicky and Nomar Mazara scoring en route to a 7-1 lead.
The right-handed Eickhoff (1-0) gave up two solo homeruns, but not much else as he earned the win in his first start. The righty threw 50 of his 70 pitches for strikes and benefited from a nasty curveball all day.
Riders relievers Cody Buckel, Tanner Scheppers, Kyle Lotzkar and Jesus Pirela combined to pitch four shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out five.
The RoughRiders will look to continue the winning ways Monday at 7:05 with LHP Victor Payano taking the mound for game two. The Naturals counter with RHP J.C. Sulbaran. Monday marks the first "Big Money Monday" at Dr Pepper Ballpark. One lucky fan in attendance will be selected as the "Big Money" contestant with a chance to win a big money jackpot.
