Connecticut Sun News Release
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (June 27, 2008) - The Connecticut Sun announced Friday that second-year guard Kamesha Hairston has been waived.
"Kamesha was caught in a numbers game," Sun head coach Mike Thibault said. "Unfortunately for her, once she got hurt, other players played well in games with her out and solidified their places in the rotation. With Erin Phillips coming back after the Olympic Break, Kamesha would have a tough time getting playing time."
Taken by the Sun in the first round (12th overall) of the 2007 WNBA Draft, Hairston averaged 1.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 17 games during her first season in Connecticut. Her most productive game in a Sun uniform came on May 31, 2007, when she scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting in 29 minutes. The 6-foot-1 guard underwent surgery for a torn right lateral meniscus during the preseason and had yet to see action for the Sun in 2008.
In its sixth season in Connecticut, the Sun have been one of the most successful teams in the league, and will be contending for their sixth straight trip to the WNBA playoffs in 2008. Tickets for all games may be purchased by calling 1.877.WNBA.TIX, logging on to www.ticketmaster.com, or by visiting the Mohegan Sun Arena box office.
