Lynx Defeat Monarchs, Improve to 8-6 on the Season

LYNX MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW

LYNX 80, MONARCHS 76

The Lynx closed out their three-game home stand on a positive note Thursday night, defeating the Sacramento Monarchs 80-76 at Target Center. The two teams played evenly in the first quarter, exchanging the lead three times before Minnesota edged ahead by three at the end of one. The Lynx came out strong to start the second, beginning the quarter on a 7-0 run. Sacramento responded with a 22-15 run of their own to close out the second quarter down three, 42-39. The Lynx added to their lead in the third and headed into the fourth with a 59-55 advantage. Minnesota held on to their lead behind 10 fourth-quarter points from Augustus to win 80-76. Augustus again led the way for the Lynx, netting a game-high 23 points, while Monarchs forward Nicole Powell scored a team-high 20 points in defeat. With the win, the Lynx improve to 8-6 on the season, while the Monarchs now stand at 6-8. The Lynx will travel to San Antonio Saturday night before returning home to take on the Chicago Sky.

The Lynx put a 4-2 road record on the line when they travel to San Antonio to take on the Silver Stars this Saturday night. Minnesota captured the first of three games between the two teams this season, winning 90-78 back on June 8th at the Target center. Seimone Augustus led the way for the Lynx in the 12-point win, putting up 18 points in the affair. Silver Stars' center Ann Wauters posted a double-double for San Antonio with 24 points and 10 rebounds. San Antonio currently holds the advantage in the overall series, 19-13. Thursday night's game will be broadcasted on the radio home of the Lynx, BOB FM 106 with Alan Horton on the play-by-play. The Lynx road trip will be short lived, as they travel back home to take on the Chicago Sky on Tuesday, July 1st at the Target Center. Tuesday's tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
