Lancaster Stormers News Release

Juan Silverio keyed a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth with a long double to right field as the Sugar Land Skeeters picked up a doubleheader split with a 3-2 decision in the nightcap at Constellation Field on Saturday.

Earlier, Nate Reed and Huascar Brazoban combined on a two-hit shutout as Lancaster grabbed the 1-0 victory in the opener (see separate story).

With Lancaster leading, 2-1, Matt Marksberry walked Anthony Giansanti to open the sixth. Denis Phipps executed a hit-and-run single into right, chasing Giansanti to third. Silverio lofted a fly ball to deep right that continued to carry beyond the reach of Carlos Garcia, short hopping the wall for the game-tying double.

Kevin Munson was summoned from the bullpen to maintain the tie, but Matt Chavez lofted a fly ball to deep enough right to score Phipps with the tiebreaking run.

Felipe Paulino entered in the ninth and retired the side in order for his 31st save.

Silverio also doubled to lead off the second with a blast to deep right center. He took third on a wild pitch and scored when Anderson De La Rosa fired the ball into left.

Lancaster countered with a pair off reliever Alex Wimmers in the top of the fourth. Ryan Casteel led off with a single to left center. Josh Bell's bunt to the right side was fumbled for an error. K.C. Hobson singled home the first run with a line drive to right, and Vladimir Frias picked up a second with a force play grounder.

Spot starter Stephen Johnson went 4 2/3 innings, yielding three hits and the one run. He walked and struck out two each in his first official start of the season.

The series concludes on Sunday with Ty'Relle Harris (0-1) making the start for the Barnstormers against lefty James Russell (7-3). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45 EDT.

NOTES: The Barnstormers wild card magic numbers stand at nine with York and seven with New Britain...Sugar Land's second half magic number to lock out York dropped to eight...Darian Sandford stole two bases to improve his season total to 69...The doubleheader took up one hour, 56 minutes less than Wednesday's twinbill at Long Island.
