Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf, MD.) - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (19-29) won game two of the series against the Road Warriors (9-41) 7-5, in a game shortened to five innings by rain.
A scoreless first began the night, with the Road Warriors grabbing the lead in the top of the second. After David Wayne Russo (3-5) got a popup for the first out, a single from Jose Ruiz put the first runner aboard on the game. Edwin Gomez followed that with a double off the left field wall, bringing Ruiz around to open the scoring.
The Blue Crabs bounced back immediately, putting up four in the bottom half of the inning. Jon Griffin started the inning with a walk, moving to second on a wild pitch and third on a flyout. A single from Devon Rodriguez would score Griffin, with a second single from Cory Vaughn putting two on base. Angelys Nina then would double down the right-field line, scoring Rodriguez and Vaughn to take the lead. A fourth straight hit from Jose Gonzalez would bring home Nina, putting the Blue Crabs ahead 4-1.
After a scoreless third from both sides, Southern Maryland would add three more in the fourth. After a lineout started the frame, Felix Baez (3-10) issued a walk to Nina and then a single to Gonzalez. Ryan Strausborger would then launch a three-run homerun, his second long ball of the series, pushing the score out to 7-1.
The Road Warriors weren't done yet though, as they bounced back in the top of the fifth. Robert DeLaHoz led off the inning with a solo homerun, his first of the season with the team. A double from Matt Hibbert was next, with an error after that allowing Anthony Ray to reach first. Osvaldo Martinez would then double to score Hibbert, cutting it to a four-run lead. Back-to-back groundouts would then score Ray and Martinez, bringing the game to a 7-5 score.
Rain had begun to fall during the top of the fifth, and after the conclusion of the four-run inning for the Road Warriors the game was halted and the tarp was placed on the field. After the 30-minute delay, the game was called an official game, and the Blue Crabs got the 7-5 win.
The Blue Crabs return to action Sunday, September 2nd for the series finale against the Road Warriors. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. on Sunday at Regency Furniture Stadium.
