Lancaster Stormers News Release

On Saturday night, the Lancaster Barnstormers faced red hot lefty Roy Merritt and put 10 runs on the board.

Less than 24 hours later, against right-hander Matt Wright, who had dropped five straight starts, Lancaster never got beyond the starting blocks.

Wright (6-7) combined with three relievers on a five-hit shutout as the Barnstormers fell, 2-0, in the finale of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster managed three singles off Wright in six innings. The native Texan, a Barnstormer in 2011, did not walk a batter while striking out eight.

Two of the three singles came in the fifth inning with Brian Cavazos-Galvez lined a leadoff base hit into left, and Derrick Pyles add a one-out hit into right. Yusuke Kajimoto grounded into a force play, and Juan Apodaca struck out to end the threat.

The Barnstormers fared little better against the Skeeters bullpen. Andrew Johnston retired the heart of the order in 1-2-3 fashion in the seventh. Lancaster managed a Kajimoto single of Dan Runzler in the eighth, and Anderson Feliz reached Derrick Loop for a leadoff single in the ninth.

Loop then struck out Kent Matthes and got Mike McDade to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to douse any remaining hopes for Lancaster in the game.

Sugar Land put a run on the board off Bryan Morgado (4-6) in the first inning. Jeff Dominguez led off with a pop fly to right which Pyles lost against the high sky for a double. One out later, Delwyn Young spun a single inside the first base bag to knock Dominguez home for the early lead.

The Skeeters run in the fifth was far more conventional. Dominguez led off with a single to left and moved to second on the third of Young's four hits. Chris Wallace took a double to the right field corner to produce the second tally.

Lancaster heads to Camden on Monday for the start of a four-game series. The Barnstormers are sending right-hander Madison Boer (0-1) to the mound against right-hander Sean Gleason (5-11). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Anderson Feliz reached on a single down the third base line in the bottom of the ninth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games...That ties David Cooper for the season high by a Barnstormer...Morgado's loss was his first in his last five starts...He has a 4-3 record with a 2.09 ERA in a starting role...All three of his losses have come in games where the Barnstormers have been shut out...The game was the 12th shutout tossed against the Barnstormers on the season.
