Ducks Complete Sweep of the Crabs

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release


(Central Islip, N.Y. August 16th 2015)--- Long Island completed the sweep of the Blue Crabs this evening with a 7-5 victory. Long Island out-hit Southern Maryland countered runs every time the Blue Crabs scored.

Southern Maryland once again took the lead first, scoring two runs in the top of the first. With Antone DeJesus on base and two outs, Jovan Rosa came to the plate, and homered over the wall in left to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the frame, Delta Cleary Jr. singled to left field. Dan Lyons then singled to put two runners on base for Sean Burroughs who singled to left to score Cleary Jr. to make it 2-1. Cody Puckett then singled to center to score Lyons to make it 2-2. A couple of batters later, with the bases loaded, Nelfi Zapata was hit by a pitch to score Burroughs to make it 3-2.

The Blue Crabs loaded the bases in the top of the second, and RHP Ian Marshall uncorked a pitch that turned into a pass ball that scored Casey Frawley to tie the game at 3-3. In the last of the second, the Ducks reclaimed the lead on an RBI single by Sean Burroughs to score Cleary Jr. to make it 4-3 Long Island.

Each team exchanged runs in the top of the fourth. In the top of the inning, Grant Zawadzki doubled to score Tyler Wagner to tie the game at 4-4. Long Island came to bat in the bottom of the inning, and scored two runs. Delta Cleary Jr., and Dan Lyons both singled to put two runners on base. Sean Burroughs then singled to load the bases for Cody Puckett who grounded into a fielder's choice to score Cleary Jr. to break the 4-4 tie. Steve McQuail lifted a fly ball to left, deep enough for Dan Lyons to score on the sacrifice fly to make it 6-4 Long Island.

The Ducks added a run in the bottom of the sixth, to make it 7-4. Southern Maryland attempted to make a comeback in the top of the seventh. With two runners on base, Craig Maddox scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5. Frank DeJiulio Jr. was summoned out of the bullpen to face Antone DeJesus. Antone grounded out to second to end the rally leaving two runners on base.

The Blue Crabs went scoreless the rest of the way. The Blue Crabs left 12 runners on base in the game, while Sean Burroughs had a big game for Long Island, going 3-5 with two RBIs. RHP Ian Marshall picked up the win against his former team, going five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out five.

Southern Maryland returns home for a seven game homestand beginning tomorrow at 7:05 P.M. against the York Revolution. The Blue Crabs will be looking to break a five game losing streak.
