PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws (14-24) let one slip away as the Dakota Wizards (13-25) stormed back late to take the one-point victory, 104-103. The loss overshadowed a team-high 35-point effort by Red Claws rookie DeShawn Sims and the successful return of Magnum Rolle who picked up 20 points in his first 24 minutes of action since November 20.
The Red Claws took control early, going on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter to end the first quarter up 30-22. Maine maintained control in the 2nd to take a 59-46 lead into the half. Dakota battled back in the third to narrow the margin to 81-75. The Wizards poured it on in the 4th, making the big plays when it counted, tying the score at 97-all with 1:37 showing on the clock. Maine seemed to have control of the outcome in hand after an Antonio Anderson jump shot with 8.1 seconds left gave Maine the 103-101 lead, but a steal by Mickell Gladness followed by a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining gave Dakota the victory.
Maine was led by a trio of Jamar Smith, DeShawn Sims and Magnum Rolle who combined for 42 of Maine's 59 points in the first half. DeShawn Sims led all scorers with 35 points, a team season-high and a career-high for the rookie forward. Jamar Smith picked up a double-double, scoring 12 points and dishing out a season-high 11 assists. Magnum Rolle provided a great spark off the bench with 20 points in his first action since early season knee surgery.
