Struck Stifles Barons in 7-3 Loss to Lookouts

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons mustered just two hits over the first eight innings in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 3,738 fans at AT&T Park.

Lookouts starter Nick Struck (2-6, 6.57) allowed just one hit and struck out five over 6.0 scoreless IP as theLookouts built a 7-0 lead.

Barons starter Mike Recchia (5-3, 3.39) experienced his worst outing since joining the Barons allowing six runs on seven hits over 5.0 IP. A pair of homers in the first two innings set the tone as Bobby Coyle gave the Lookouts a 1-0 lead in the first with a solo shot and Daniel Mayora followed an inning later with a two-run homer giving the Lookouts a 3-0 lead. Corey Seager's two-run single in the fifth inning ended Recchia's night and gave Chattanooga a 5-0 lead.

The Barons finally got on the board in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Michael Earley, his third of the season. RBI doubles by Christian Marrero and Chris Curley in the top of the ninth cut the Lookouts lead to 7-3 but it wasn't enough as the Barons fell to 51-60 on the season and 22-19 in the second half while Chattanooga improved to 41-69 and15-25 in the second half.

The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Bryan Blough (2-2. 3.60) takes the hill against RHP Matt Shelton (2-3, 4.83). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CDT.
