Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones, 4-1, in front of 4,182 at Dutchess Stadium Thursday night.

Renegades starter Wilking Rodriguez did not allow a hit until Brooklyn third baseman Rich Lucas ripped a two-out single in the fourth inning. Rodriguez (5.0,2H,0R/0ER, 6SO) left the game after five scoreless innings, allowing a pair of hits and walking one. The right-hander became the fourth Renegades starter in five games to allow two runs or less.

Right-hander Andrew Leary earned the save for Hudson Valley, holding Brooklyn to one run over four strong innings. Only Roque Colon (4.2 IP, 6/20) has thrown more relief innings in a single game for the Renegades in 2011.

In the other dugout, Brooklyn LHP Carlos Vazquez (4.2IP,7H,3R/1ER,7SO) cruised through the first four frames, allowing just three hits while striking out seven Renegades hitters.

The Renegades broke through against Vazquez in the fifth inning, when shortstop Juniel Querecuto doubled in Raymond Church with the game's first run. Hudson Valley catcher Gerardo Olivares hit a bases-loaded ground ball with two outs in the inning, but third baseman Rich Lucas's throw sailed wide of second base, allowing two runs to score. After five frames, the Renegades led 3-0.

Hudson Valley added a run in the eighth inning, when Olivares hit his first triple of the season and came in to score on third baseman Tanner Biagini's sacrifice fly.

The Renegades play the Cyclones Dutchess Stadium tomorrow, June 24th, at 7:05 p.m.
