Brockton Rox News Release
WEST HAVEN, CT - RHP John Boker tossed six strong innings on the hill and 1B Jake Daubert drove in two runs for the Rox, including the go- ahead run in the fifth inning as the Rox beat the New Haven County Cutters at Yale Field in West Haven, CT 3-2 before a crowd of 1,777. Boker fanned six to pick up his team-leading third win of the season and received help from his bullpen, with RHP Wayne Lundgren and RHP Jon Koch tossing three shutout innings. The Rox are now 10-11 while New Haven County falls to 9-11.
Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Rox tied the game on a Daubert RBI single to right field. In the fourth, Brockton took its first lead of the game. C Jason Radwan singled to lead off the frame and then the catcher stole second, his third stolen base in as many nights. RF Keith Brachold singled up the middle to tie the game. Later in the inning, Brachold was thrown out at the plate, trying to score. Brachold had two hits tonight and has five in the previous two games. The Cutters responded with an RBI single off the bat of 3B Jeremy Terni to tie the game at two after four innings of play.
In the fifth, 2B Matt Brunson walked, stole second, and scored on Daubert's second RBI of the game, a double over the head of Cutters LF D.J. Bailey, giving the Rox a 3-2 lead. Both bullpens did their job. Lundgren came on in relief of Boker in the seventh and retired all six batters he faced in his first game in a Rox uniform, with Koch nailing down the save with three strikeouts in the ninth inning.
Tomorrow the Rox send LHP Rolando Viera (1-2, 4.67 ERA) to the hill against LHP Rolando Valles for New Haven County. First pitch from Yale Field is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
