New Jersey Jackals News Release
The New Jersey Jackals used a combination of patience and power to score nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings to surge to an eventual 17-6 win against the Nashua Pride at Yogi Berra Stadium; the Jackals walked four times and collected nine hits to substitute a 3-1 deficit entering the fifth for a more comfortable 10-4 lead at the end of their two-inning explosion.
Joe Mihalics went 2 for 5 with two runs and 6 RBI, John Lindsey went 5 for 5 with 3 RBI and three doubles, and the Jackals collected 19 hits as a team. Jason Tuttle scored three runs on three hits and the Can-Am leader in slugging percentage, Bill Peavey, went 3 for 5 with an RBI.
After Andy Dillard walked to begin the seventh, Billy Becher smoked a 2-run homer to deep left off Joe Goodman that pulled Nashua to within four runs, 10-6. However, Goodman pitched a scoreless eighth and Adam Nikolic pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to end the game.
Jackals starting pitcher Joe Orloski (2-2) pitched six innings and allowed four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits, while walking five and striking out one for the win.
Raul Valdez (1-1), who was so brilliant in his win against the Jackals on June 11, was tagged with the loss as he surrendered seven runs on 10 hits in just four and two-third innings. In relief of Valdez, the Pride's bullpen allowed 10 runs on nine hits with seven walks; Lenny Carter got one out in relief, however, he allowed four walks and five runs in the eighth inning.
Nashua jumped out to an early 3-1 lead as they scored a run in each of its first three innings. However, their two-run lead would crumble in the fifth as the Jackals knocked in six runs on six hits off Valdez. Mihalics hit a 2-run double that scored John Lindsey and Jason Belcher. Bill Peavey and Guillermo Reyes also picked up an RBI in the inning
