Spirit drop series opener 4-0

June 16, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release

The Spirit offense was sluggish in their first game back from a Quebec road trip, and the team was shut out in the series opener with Worcester, 4-0, at home.

The North Shore lineup managed just four hits in the game. Tornadoes starting pitcher Junior Guerrero baffled the Spirit bats in a

seven-inning shutout performance to earn the victory. Spirit starter Joey Siak suffered the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work.

With the victory, the Tornadoes improved to 11-10 on the season while the Spirit dropped to 12-6 on the year.

Worcester grabbed the early lead in this contest with a two-run first inning. After retiring the first two batters in the inning, Siak hit Josh Beauregard with a pitch and gave up a home run to Chris Collabello.

Worcester tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single from Keith Beauregard.

Worcester plated their final run in the top of the eighth inning. Collabello got things started with a single and came around to score on a Spirit error.

North Shore had its best chance to score in the eighth inning. Despite loading the bases with just one out, however, the Spirit

couldn't push a run across the plate. Worcester reliever Jamie Merchant pitched the Tornadoes out of the jam and preserved the shutout. Merchant went two scoreless innings to earn the save.

The Spirit will be back in action on Saturday night against Worcester. The game will have a special 6:05 start time to accommodate the post-game fireworks.
