Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN- The Traverse City Beach Bums'(13-19) came back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Evansville Otters(17-15) by a final score of 5-2.
After a scoreless first inning, Evansville got on the board first on a two-run triple by Mike Rizzitello. With one out in the fifth, Max Dutto and newcomer Alec Olund each walked. Arby Fields then reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Isaac Benard followed with his third hit of the game, a two-run single, tying the game at two apiece.
In the eighth, the Beach Bums put together a two out rally to grab the late lead. Steve Lohr doubled off of the right field wall and was replaced at second by Josh Hauser. Alexis Rivera walked and Kendall Patrick drove them both home with a double over the right fielder's head for a 4-2 advantage. Max Duttp doubled in the ninth then scored on an RBI single by Fields for a big insurance run.
John Havird earned the win for Traverse City with a strong seven inning effort, retiring the last 12 Otter batters he faced. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out six as he improves to 2-3. Sean Adler gets the loss to fall to 2-3 after giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in an inning's work. Matt Williams gave up a hit in the ninth, but finished the game off for his third save of the season.
After an off day on Monday, the Beach Bums continue this nine game road trip with a three-game series against the Washington Wild Things. Chase Cunningham gets the start for Washington while Justin Finan goes for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call, starting with the Budweiser pregame show, at 6:45pm. It will be two seven-inning games.
