Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, Ky - On Clint Brown Day in Northern Kentucky, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, honored their late owner with a fast-paced, 6-1, win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Sunday at UC Health Stadium.
Freedom (16-17) starter, Steve Hagen (4-2) worked quickly and efficiently retiring the first nine Boomers (16-16) he faced through the first three frames.
Florence broke through on Schaumburg right-hander Joe Hauser (3-2) in the bottom of the fifth, plating the game's first run on an Austin Wobrock single that scored Connor Crane from second.
The Boomers would promptly answer in the top of the sixth, thanks to a Clint Ferguson sacrifice fly with the bases loaded that evened the score at one. Hagen would retire the next two men he faced to strand runners on the corners and preserve the, 1-1, tie.
Keivan Berges put the Freedom in front by three in the bottom of the sixth, launching a towering three-run blast to left-center for his fourth round tripper of the year. Prior to the homer, Jordan Brower worked a leadoff walk, and Xavier Turner ripped his first of two singles on the night to put runners at first and second.
Hagen left the game after 7.1 innings allowing just one run on six hits while fanning four and walking one in a phenomenal effort that earned him his fourth victory of the season.
Hauser would finish seven frames for Schaumburg, ending his night having surrendered four runs on seven hits with one walk en route to his second loss.
Florence added a pair of insurance runs off Boomers reliever James Mulry in the home half of the eighth. A pair of singles from Turner and Berges paved the way to a Crane two-run single as the Freedom increased their edge to, 6-1, the eventual final score.
Florence now has one day off before Jordan Kraus will take the mound on Tuesday in the series opener against the Evansville Otters. The three-game series will round out a nine-game homestand for Florence, with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m at UC Health Stadium.
The Florence Freedom are members of the Independent Frontier League and play all home games at UC Health Stadium located at 7950 Freedom Way in Florence, KY. The Freedom can be found online at florencefreedom.com, or by phone at (859) 594-4487.
