AVON, OHIO. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, rode an eight inning performance from starter Sean Renzi to defeat River City on Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-2.

River City (18-14) took advantage of an early mistake by the Crushers to plate the first run. In the first inning, JD Hearn drove a ball into right field that bounced over the head of Doug Trimble, resulting in a double. Mike Jurgella drove in Hearn on an RBI groundout, making it 1-0.

The Crushers responded in the bottom of the first with a run courtesy of an RBI single by Kewby Meyer that scored Kevin Lachance who had previously singled. Lachance then stole second and took third on an error before the hit by Meyer.

River City took the lead back in the fourth inning after a home run by Paul Kronenfeld made it 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Crushers tied the game with a home run of their own. Doug Trimble got a hanging breaking ball from starter Hunter Spencer (0-1) and put it over the left field wall for his first home run of the year.

The Crushers weren't done in the inning. Bryan DeLaRosa followed with a double and advanced to third after Dalton Wheat grounded out. With two outs, Lachance stepped in and placed a bunt single to the right side with the infield back. DeLaRosa raced home to score the eventual game winning run.

Lachance finished 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Meyer also went 2-4 with an RBI in the win.

Now working with a lead, Renzi (5-1) seemed to get stronger as the game went on. He retired the Rascals in order in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings. He finished with a season-high eight innings while striking out seven. The Crushers have won six of Renzi's seven starts.

Justin Sinibaldi closed the game out in the ninth after allowing a double to Kronenfeld. Sinibaldi picked up his seventh save of the year.

Lake Erie (20-13) finished off the season series with the Rascals, having won four of six. Lake Erie is 10-9 in one run games this season. The Crushers will host the Schaumburg Boomers on Tuesday to begin a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.
