AHL Rockford IceHogs

Streaking Hogs Host Lake Erie

November 4, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill. - The previous time the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs returned from a lengthy road trip they were looking to regroup after dropping a couple games on the east coast. Now they are coming home with a full head of steam. The IceHogs (7-2-0-1), winners of five-straight, retake the ice at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Tuesday against the Lake Erie Monsters (4-4-0-1) tonight at 7 p.m.

Fans can take advantage of the first WXRX Dollar Day of the 2014-15 season by enjoying hot dogs, sodas, beers and companion tickets all for a dollar each. Tickets are available in person at the BMO Harris Bank Center box office or at any Ticketmaster location, or by calling 815-968-5222 or visiting IceHogs.com.

Those unable to attend can watch the action online through AHL Live or locally on 23.2 Antenna TV, beginning with IceHogs Warm Up airing at 6:30 p.m.

The IceHogs are coming off the heels of a successful three game trip to Grand Rapids and San Antonio this past week. After Michael Leighton and the Rockford defense held tight for a 2-1 victory over the Griffins on Wednesday, the IceHogs offense exploded for 11 total goals during a two-game sweep over the Rampage on Friday and Saturday.

During their current five game tear, Rockford has outscored their opponents 24-10, after only scoring ten goals over their first five games this season. The five-consecutive wins ties the IceHogs longest streak a year ago, a streak that spanned from Feb. 15-25, 2014. Rockford has not been able to get past five in a row since the 2012-2013 campaign, when they strung six wins together from Feb. 16 to March 1.

In addition to the team's overall winning streak, a couple players are riding individual scoring streaks into Tuesday night's game. Rookie forward Matt Carey has parlayed his two-point performance against the Monsters on Oct. 26 into a four game scoring streak where he has collected five points (3g-2a). Team captain Joakim Nordstrom also had a strong road trip, factoring in each of his last three games picking up two goals and an assist.

Lake Erie is making its second visit to the Forest City in 10 days, and happens to be riding some momentum of its own. The Monsters swept the Texas Stars on home ice over the weekend, and have picked up points in four of their last five games. The Colorado Avalanche affiliate will be looking to avenge a 5-2 loss to the IceHogs at the BMO just over a week ago, where three third period goals by Rockford broke open a 2-2 tie.

On the scoresheet the Monsters are led by center Mike Sgarbossa's seven assists and winger Paul Carey's six points (3g-3a). Goaltender Calvin Pickard has bared the brunt of the load in net, putting together a 3-2-1 record with a .933 save percentage and a 2.12 goals against average.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Nov. 8 vs. Grand Rapids Griffins. Game starts at 7 p.m. Rockford will make their salute to the Armed Forces when they host the Griffins for Military Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. In addition to recognizing past and current service men and women throughout the night, the first 2,500 fans will receive an IceHogs camoflauge hat courtesy of Pepsi.
