November 4, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Hamilton, ON)... The Rochester Americans wrapped up their three-game road swing with a 6-1 loss to the North Division rival Hamilton Bulldogs Tuesday morning at the FirstOntario Centre. It marked the third straight year the Amerks traveled to southern Ontario for Hamilton's annual school day game, which Rochester won in each of the previous two seasons. The loss brings the Amerks' record to 6-4-0-0 through the first 10 games of the 2014-145 campaign.
Tim Schaller scored Rochester's lone goal on the power-play with assists from Joel Armia and Mikhail Grigorenko while the goaltending tandem of Andrey Makarov and Nathan Lieuwen combined for 17 saves in the loss.
Daniel Carr (2+1) and Gabriel Dumont (1+2) each posted three points in the win for the Bulldogs, who also received two-point efforts from Sven Andrighetto (1+1) and T.J. Hensick (0+2). Mac Bennett and Drayson Bowman rounded out the scoring for Hamilton while veteran goaltender Joey MacDonald stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced for his third win of the season.
Hamilton opened the scoring at 13:27 of the first period with Carr slamming home Dumont's rebound for his second goal of the season. A quick transition by the Bulldogs allowed for Andrighetto to make a quick outlet pass to Dumont, who raced in on Makarov from the right wing boards despite pressure from Amerks defenseman Mark Pysyk. Dumont's stuff-in attempt was stopped by the left leg of Makarov, but Carr was able to poke the wobbling puck past the Rochester netminder for his first of the game and a 1-0 Hamilton lead.
The Bulldogs added to their lead later in the frame when Bennett's slap shot from just inside the blueline beat Makarov with 1:47 remaining for the eventual game-winner, sending Hamilton to the break up 2-0.
Hamilton blew the game wide open in the latter half of the second period, scoring four times in a span of 3:35 to make it 6-0. Carr potted his second of the day at the 11:21 mark followed by a power-play tally from Bowman with assists from Christian Thomas and Hensick a mere 1:07 later.
The goals continued to come for the hosts as Dumont got one past Makarov for the Bulldogs' fifth goal, prompting a Rochester goalie change at 14:34. Andrighetto cushioned Hamilton's lead to 6-0 just 22 seconds later after he was able to poke a rebound behind Lieuwen during a goal-mouth scramble for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Schaller ruined MacDonald's shutout bid with a power-play goal 2:48 into the final frame.
After spending the last three on the road, Rochester begins a five-game homestand on Friday, Nov. 7 when the Amerks return home to face the Binghamton Senators at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:05 p.m. matchup will be the first of just four meetings between the intrastate rivals this season and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1280 Rochester.
