Elmira, NY- Five runs in the first three innings helped the Northeast League Aces to an 8-3 win over the Elmira Pioneers on Thursday night.
The Aces picked up a pair of runs in the first inning with one swing of the bat as Chad Gambill hit a two-run homer to make it 2-0. In the second Dalphine Correa hit an two out RBI single to make it a 3-0 ballgame. In the third the Aces would once again add a pair of runs with one swing as Mike Davis hit a two-run double to the warning track to make it 5-0.
In the fifth inning Eddie Gerald hit the Aces second two-run bomb of the game to leftfield to make it 7-0. The Pio's would get one back in the bottom of the fifth on Ryan Smith's groundout to start what looked like a possible Elmira rally. In the sixth the Pioneers added two more runs on an RBI double fromYuji Nerei and an RBI single from Jeremy Dodson to get to within four, making it 7-3. But the Aces cancelled out any possible Elmira rally with Gerald's third RBI of the night, an RBI double to center to make it 8-3.
Chris Zallie (3-6) got hit with the loss, allowing seven runs on 12 hits over 4 and 1/3 innings of work.
