Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Fans who payed admission to the NYTEX Sports Centre Saturday night received all their money's worth with a 5-4 overtime thriller over Tulsa. Scott Sheppard recorded two goals in the Brahmas league leading eighth consecutive win at home.
The second period was an explosion of offense starting withTulsa's leading scorer Jeff Christian. Christian found his way past Brahmas starting goaltender David Cacciola on a powerplay at the 3:15 mark, for his 19th goal of the season. One minute later the Brahmas positioned themselves on a powerplay of their own and were able to beat Kevin St. Pierre to make it a 1-1 tie. Tyler Skworchinski was credited with the goal. Tulsa came back with two more unanswered goals, including the first shorthanded goal against the Brahmas for the year.
The Brahmas and their third ranked powerplay unit went to work again late in the period, and this time it was defenseman Kevin McLeod with a shot that rang past St. Pierre. As they sat just one shot back going into the final period the Brahmas went to work, starting with a Scott Sheppard goal coming from a delayed call. Six minutes later Grant Jacobsen gave Texas their first lead of the game with his 18th of the year. A scramble in front of Cacciola's goal resulted in an Oiler's fourth goal, ultimately leading to a second overtime in as many nights. Sheppard and McLeod displayed patience and skill as they went on a breakaway with just over one minute remaining in the extra period and were able to find the back of the net for the win. With the goal, Sheppard earned the game's first star.
The Brahmas will be back in action Friday, February 6 to face their 2008 Northern Conference Finals opponents, the Colorado Eagles for the first and only time this year in the regular season. For tickets to the rematch please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423.
