
Bad Bounces Cost Bucks In 6-3 Loss

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 6-3 Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks loss, coupled with the Texas Brahmas win Saturday night puts the Bucks 12 points behind the Brahmas in the Southeast Division.
Darryl Smith scored two goals in a losing cause for the Bucks. Smith now has 23 goals on the season.
The Ice Rays (18-21-4, 40pts) jumped out in front just 37 seconds into the game,as Curtis Huppe skated over the blue line and ripped a shot past Sebastien Centomo. The goal was Huppe's fourth of the season.
The Bucks (24-14-4, 52pts) came right back and tied the game up at one 3:13 into the first, when Darryl Smith hammered home a rebound right in front of Kris Tebbs. The goal was Smith's 22nd of the season with Alex Goupil picking up the assist (24).
Corpus would come right back and take a 2-1 lead just 18 seconds later when Chris Shaffer knocked in a rebound right in front of the crease.
The Bucks (17-5-1 at home) would get a break when they tied the game at 2-2 late in the first. Adam Rivet sent a slap shot in from the right point that slipped past Tebbs.
The Bucks outshot the Ice Rays in the first period 14-6.
The Ice Rays would score two straight power-play goals in the first 5:41 of the second period to take a 4-2 lead.
John Halverson gave Corpus a 3-2 lead when he knocked in rebound on the power-play 4:37 into the second period.
Jeremy Leroux would make it 4-2 Ice Rays, when he took the puck in the high slot and went in all by himself and scored past Centomo on the power-play.
Laredo would make it 4-3 when Smith made a beautiful move to split two defenders and whip a shot past Tebbs. The goal was Smith's second of the night, and 23rd of the year.
Corpus would score to take a 5-3 lead with 3:39 left in the second, when Adam Powell skated past the blue line a snap a shot past Centomo.
The Bucks would pull Centomo after the Ice Rays fifth goal. Centomo stopped just 10 of 15 shots he faced.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period 14-11.
Chris Shaffer scord in the third to make it 6-3 Ice Rays.
Andrew Martin made his Bucks debut replacing Centomo in the second period, stopping 15 of 16 shots he faced.
The loss was the Bucks first against the Ice Rays in regulation this season (6-1-1)
