Strange Bounces Help Mudbugs Over Bucks

Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Laredo Bucks shooting the puck into their own net on a delayed penalty proved to be the difference as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs earned a 4-3 victory on Monday night at the CenturyTel Center. The game-winning goal happened with goaltender Sebastien Centomo out of the net for a delayed penalty against the Mudbugs. The Bucks were controlling in the offensive zone when they tried to pass back to the point, but the puck went all the way down the ice and into the net for the game-winning goal.
Goaltender Ken Carroll was originally credited as the last Mudbugs player to touch the puck, but further video review found the goal to be Dave Pszenyczny's. Carroll still had a great night in his 300th professional game, making 26 saves and earning the win in goal. Brett Smith also had a goal and an assist as the Mudbugs moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Northeast Division.
The first period went by quickly with few whistles and both teams rolling the lines. Laredo went up 1-0 when Ryan Salvis' tried to wraparound the net and throw a shot on goal. The shot was headed wide when it took a bad bounce off a Mudbugs defenseman in front and over Ken Carroll's shoulder to open the scoring for the Bucks. Laredo finished the first period with a 12-9 shot advantage and a 1-0 lead. Both teams were 0 for 2 on the powerplay in the opening frame.
The scoring chances picked up for both teams in the second period, with Laredo building its lead to 2-0. Ryan Salvis blocked a shot in the Laredo zone and chased it down the ice to get a shot on goal that was stopped by Carroll before Rick Kozak chipped in the rebound. The Mudbugs then got on the board on the powerplay though when Brett Smith deflected Dale Lupul's point shot past Sebastien Centomo to get the 'Bugs back within one. Another deflection tied the game for Bossier-Shreveport when Chris Brassard tipped in a Quade Lightbody slapshot from the point to make it 2-2. Just over one minute later, The Mudbugs took the lead on another strange bounce when Travis Clayton sent the puck across the slot and had it bounce off of a Laredo player and into the net to give the 'Bugs a 3-2 lead after two period.
The strange play happened at 12:22 of the third period, with a delayed penalty coming against Brett Angel. Centomo was on the bench for the extra attacker when the Bucks put the puck in their own net to make it 4-2 Mudbugs. Laredo didn't quit though, scoring with 15 second remaining as Bobby Russell picked up a rebound in front. The 'Bugs held on for the last few seconds to move to finish 3-1 against the Bucks this year.
Bossier-Shreveport outshot Laredo 33-29 and finished 1-3 on the powerplay, while Laredo was 0 for 3.
The Mudbugs will now travel overnight to Mississippi for another game that starts only about 12 hours after the conclusion of Monday's game. Tuesday morning at 10:00 am, the RiverKings are hosting their annual "Face Off Field Trip" game for local school kids. Two big points in this tight Northeast Division race are on the line in this one, so tune in on AM 1130 with pregame coverage beginning at 9:45 am. The game will also be shown live on the CHL Network.
