Oilers Win Sports Challenge

January 26, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

Tulsa Oilers players are known for dishing out hard body checks that "ring the bell" of their opponents, and now the Oilers have been recognized for ringing bells of a different sort.

The Salvation Army has awarded the Oilers the Gold Bell as the winners of the 2008 Sports Celebrity Bell ringing challenge. The bell is now on display at the Oilers administrative office, 9128 E. 46th Street (46th Street between Memorial and Mingo).

"Our players really got into this event and the importance of the Salvation Army in the community," Oilers general manager Taylor Hall said. "We invite everyone to come by our office and see the Gold Bell."

Oiler players spent the better part of the afternoon on December 8th at various Salvation Army Red Kettle locations, ringing the bells and collecting donations. Hall said getting the whole team involved helped the campaign. With the Oilers help, the Salvation Army saw increases in kettle revenue, bell ringing days and locations, volunteerism and volunteer based revenue.
