BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3 Monday night at the CenturyTel Center. The Bucks lost their second straight game to fall to 22-13-4 (48pts). Laredo is still 10 points behind Texas in the Southeast Division.
Two-time CHL MVP Jeff Bes was injured in the second period as he was hit hard into the boards. Bes was down on the ice for a couple of minutes before limping off the ice with the help of his teamates, and did not return to the game. Bes' status is unknown at press time.
Laredo falls to 0-9 at the CenturyTel Center All-Time in the regular season.
The Bucks are just 1-6-3 in their last 11 road games.
The Bucks jumped out in front of the Mudbugs (24-13-5, 51pts) as they lit the lamp 7:32 into the first period. Ryan Salvis took the puck from behind the Bossier net, and skated to the right circle and sent a wrist shot over Ken Carroll's shoulder. The goal was Salvis' ninth of the year, with Bes (46) and Matt Miller (3) picking up assists.
Laredo (6-9-3 on the road) scored first for just the fourth time in their last 15 games.
The Bucks outshot the Mudbugs in the first 20 minutes 12-9.
Laredo made 2-0 just 4:17 into the second. Rick Kozak jammed in a rebound past Carroll off of a Salvis shot. The strike was Kozak's 17 of the year, with Salvis (9) picking up the assist. Kozak has now scored a goal in three straight games.
The Mudbugs, who are now tied for first in the Northeast Division, scored three straight goales in the second to take a 3-2 lead after two periods.
Brett Smith (7:56) and Chris Brassard (13:40, power-play) each tipped in shots from the point past Sebastien Centomo to make it 2-2.
Bossier took a 3-2 lead with 5:05 left in the second, when Travis Clayton sent the puck towards the crease and deflected in off of Centomo's stick. Clayton leads the Mudbugs in goals with 16.
The Bucks were outshot in the second 14-8.
The Mudbugs would take a 4-2 lead 12:22 into the third, as the Mudbugs scored a goal into the Bucks empty net. The Bucks pulled Centomo for an extra attacker due to a delayed penalty on the Mudbugs, but Bossier cleared the puck the length of the ice into the empty Bucks net.
Carroll, who was playing in his 300 career game, made 26 shots in the win.
Laredo cut the 'Bugs lead to 4-3 with just 15 seconds left in the game, as Bobby Russell scored with an extra attacker to pull the Bucks within one.
The Bucks would win the ensuing face off, but fail to score to tie the contest.
Centomo stopped 29 of 33 shots in taking the loss in net for the Bucks.
