EL Reading Fightin Phils

Stott Delivers Go-Ahead RBI in Back and Forth Win

August 19, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

For the second time in as many games this series, the R-Phils offense came up clutch late, winning 6-5 after Bryson Stott's go-ahead sacrifice fly.

The offenses kicked into action early for both sides, as Bowie lead off the game with a solo shot to make it 1-0.

But the R-Phils were able to capitalize off an error in the bottom half, as Josh Stephen ripped an RBI double into right-center field to nod it up at one.

1-1 became 2-1 quickly as Luke Miller lead off the bottom of the second with an opposite field shot to give Reading the advantage.

After Colton Eastman gave up the leadoff homer, he retired the next six batters in order courtesy of back-to-back double plays to end the inning.

In relief first came Jack Perkins, who finished the day with two runs allowed in four innings while striking out six, which includes escaping a bases-loaded one out situation scoreless.

Matt Kroon doubled the deficit with a two-run homer into the picnic area to make it 4-1 after three innings of play.

Stott drove in an RBI single in the fourth to add an insurance run.

A two-run inning for the Baysox brought in Nick Lackney, who similar to Eastman allowed a homer to lead off the inning before ending the frame on a double play.

This made the score 5-4 heading into the eighth, which brought in Seranthony Dominguez (W, 1-0). Despite Jack Conley firing a strike to second to get the caught stealing, a balk with a runner on third forced in the game-tying run.

Reading would respond in the bottom half, as a bunt single by Conley, a double by Madison Stokes, then a sacrifice fly from Stott was the formula to put the Fightins in front 6-5.

Brian Marconi (SV, 9) came in to close it out, and did so with conviction, who only allowed one walk in his inning of work.
