Orlando City SC News Release
Setting Records
Orlando City captain Nani recorded his 10th assist of the 2019 season on Sunday in Cincinnati, earning the secondary assist on Benji Michel's stoppage time finish, tying him with former Lions Kaka and Yoshi Yotún for the single-season assist record in Club history. The Portuguese international leads the Lions in both goals and assists this season, with 12 and 10 respectively on the year. Nani will finish the year as the first player in Club history to complete a season as the team-leader in both goals and assists.
On the Defensive
The Lions have allowed just 47 goals this season, a near 30-goal improvement from 2018. The City defense is on pace to set a Club-record for goals conceded in a season, with the current record held by the inaugural MLS squad from 2015 with 56. With a shutout on Sunday, the Lions could also set a Club-record for clean sheets in a single season, currently sitting tied with the 2015 and 2017 squads with seven on the year.
Save No. 100
With his first save of the match on Sunday in Cincinnati, City goalkeeper Brian Rowe registered his 100th stop as a Lion, becoming the second goalkeeper in Club history to reach 100 saves in a season. Former Lion Joe Bendik reached the same mark in each of the 2016 and 2017 seasons with 114 and 118 saves respectively. If Rowe were to record a clean sheet on Sunday, he would break Bendik's single-season record of seven clean sheets by a City goalkeeper from 2017, having been in goal for each of the Lions' shutouts throughout 2019.
Another for the Hometown Kid
Benji Michel scored his fourth goal of the 2019 season on Sunday with his finish in second half stoppage time. The Lions have earned a result in each match that Michel has scored this season with a 1-0-3 record when the Homegrown talent finds the back of the net. Michel scored the game-winner against Columbus on July 13, and in each of the Lions' draws against Toronto FC and LAFC before his finish in the Queen City on Sunday.
Milestone Tracker
Nani is one assist away from setting a single-season Club record. The City captain currently has 10 assists in 2019.
Will Johnson is one start away from tying Kaka (75) for the second-most by a midfielder in Club history.
Dom Dwyer is one goal away from taking sole possession of second in Club history. Dwyer currently sits tied with Kaka at 24 finishes throughout his City tenure.
