Storm's Sue Bird Leads Western Conference All-Star Voting

SEATTLE, Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird leads all Western Conference players in votes during first returns of the 2007 WNBA All-Star balloting program presented by AOL and T-Mobile. Bird has received the third largest number of votes overall behind Indiana's Tamika Catchings and Detroit's Deanna Nolan.

The WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the Washington Mystics at Verizon Center on Sunday, July 15 and will be televised nationally on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Bird, who is averaging 12.0 points, 4.5 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game, currently has 24,335 votes, just seven votes ahead of San Antonio's Becky Hammon. Bird is a four-time WNBA All-Star starter in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. Bird's teammate, Lauren Jackson, is also in the Top 10 in All-Star votes. She leads all Western Conference forwards with 20,464 votes. Jackson, a five-time WNBA All-Star, is averaging a double-double this season and currently leads the league in scoring at 24.0 points per game and rebounding at 10.2 per game.

Storm center Janell Burse is second in All-Star voting at the center position, just 114 votes behind San Antonio's Ruth Riley. Betty Lennox is third in voting at the guard position behind Bird and Hammon with 12,075 votes.

Starters for the WNBA All-Star Game will be determined by fan balloting which began on May 22 and runs through June 24 in WNBA arenas, online and through a variety of other outlets. Second returns will be announced in the weeks to come, while starting lineups will be announced on Tuesday, July 3. Reserve players will subsequently be selected by the League's Eastern and Western Conference head coaches and announced by the league on Tuesday, July 10.
